Mariposa Dairy Receives Jobs Funding

The government of Ontario is helping a Lindsay-based company to automate its manufacturing process, develop new products, upgrade worker's skills, and expand its market reach.

The province will provide $172,600 to Mariposa Dairy Ltd. through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF). The grant will help create 11 new jobs over two years. In 2007, the company received a regional Ontario Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence in recognition of its outstanding contribution to farming innovation.

Mariposa Dairy Ltd. produces soft goat cheese that is sold to food service companies and major grocery chains across Canada and the Eastern Seabord. More than 50 staff are employed in Lindsay.  "We are very encouraged by the Ontario government's assistance and welcome the potential outcomes in terms of new products and jobs in the Kawartha Lakes region”, says Bruce VandenBerg, General Manager, Mariposa Dairy Ltd

In 2007, eastern Ontario's gross domestic product (GDP) was approximately $61 billion, representing 12 per cent of the provincial total. To date, the EODF has committed over $10.6 million to 26 announced projects representing a total project investment of $68 million.  Rick Johnson, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, states "Ontario is committed to supporting innovation and business growth through incentive programs like the Eastern Ontario Development Fund. Leaders in their field are those who recognize innovation and increased productivity as key to expanding market share."
