7th Annual Kawartha Farmfest October 3 & 4
Residents and visitors alike are invited to drop in on our rural neighbours during the seventh annual Kawartha Farmfest.
The weekend of October 3rd and 4th has been set aside for this year’s autumn tour of farms and rural attractions. Kawartha Farmfest allows visitors to tour local farms, country shops and enjoy locally produced food products.
Kawartha Farmfest is organized by a volunteer committee of farmers and rural businesses in conjunction with Economic Development, City of Kawartha Lakes. This year’s Farmfest will feature a variety of farms ranging from pumpkins to horses to emus and more. Lunar Rhythm Gardens near Pontypool will give visitors a look into sustainable farming methods using draft horse power. Coyote Creek farm features Soapfest where visitors can have a look at the soapmaking process in the new soap house. Sheepfest will be featuring Eden Lane Farm near Cambray, a large-scale working sheep farm. Valentia Equestrian, located in Valentia, will be holding a lawn tractor pull, and equestrian game competitions. Other sites include an organic beef and poultry farm, emu farm, a farm with giant pumpkins and much more.
Food is also an important feature of Kawartha Farmfest. Upstairs at Loblaws in Lindsay will be featuring two days of sampling at Cheesefest. Other sites will feature honey, maple syrup, Mennonite baking and many other home baked specialities. Our country store, Farmers’ Daughter will be offering demonstrations on how to create the ever-popular pumpkin centerpiece.
Kawartha Farmfest sites are designed to be interactive and entertaining for both young and old. Visitors anywhere in the City of Kawartha Lakes will find themselves no more than twenty minutes drive from a starting site. Participants can travel to as many sites as they like over the two days. They can drop in for a quick tour, or they can stay for an extended visit. Directional Farmfest signs will guide visitors to the nearest Farmfest site.
Kawartha Farmfest admission is only $5 for adults and comes in the form of a button or sticker which must be worn for entry at all sites. The price includes a complimentary guide and map with a description of each location. Children fourteen and under can explore Kawartha Farmfest for Free.
Kawartha Farmfest buttons can be purchased through most City of Kawartha Service Centres, Libraries and the Lindsay and Bobcaygeon Chamber of Commerce in Kawartha Lakes. Buttons will also be available at all of the host sites during the tour and a variety of other sites listed at www.kawarthafarmfest.com.
